The ALS Association Alabama Chapter is excited to announce its 2019 Educational Symposium, “All In: Collaborative Care for ALS”. Collaboration is key when it comes to effective care and treatment for persons living with ALS, their families, and the battle against this debilitating and complicated disease.

We are excited about our great line-up of speakers, and topics – as well as vendors for our vendor fair. We have speakers from UAB and the VA ALS Clinics, including Dr.Peter King and Dr.Mohamed Kazamel. Dr.Kazamel and Dr. Kim Redwine, CNRP will be discussing the telemedicine collaboration with UAB and the VA. Dr.King will be updating us on his ALS research. Sherry Kolodziejczak, MS, OTR/L will be speaking about expanding the clinic multidisciplinary team into home care settings. Sherry serves as the ALS Clinic Coordinator and the Director of Therapy Services at Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville – the only Certified ALS Treatment Center of Excellence currently located in Alabama. We will also have the clinic SLP from Alabama Neurology’s Associate’s Recognized Treatment Center, Kathleen Smith, speaking on communication strategies and assistive technology. Participants will also have opportunities to work hands-on with assistive technology and alternative communication equipment with Kathleen during a hands-on lab held during our vendor fair. Finally, we will be welcoming nationally known keynote speaker, Dr. BC Farnham – who will be speaking on Compassion Fatigue and Caregiver Burnout. It is bound to be an information filled event, full of valuable resources and contacts.

Event attendees will be provided with 4 hours of CEUs provided by Affinity Hospice.
